About the Society
Welcome to our home and our passion. Roses, Roses, Roses. We are a hands on society and spend our meeting times learning, growing, sharing our experience and love of roses, and enjoying ourselves. Stay awhile and enjoy our growing collection of rose information, interesting links, and fun archives.
We are dedicated to providing meaningful information on roses and will continue to collect pictures, articles, and other information to further support our hobby and our passion. We are an active Society that has been in place since February of 1997. It was founded by Audrey and Oz Osborn who have infused their love and knowledge of the Rose into the membership. The original 10 members that began with the Osborn’s in their living room, have increased to over 100 members.
The Lower Cape Rose Society has planted and maintained the Tip and Millie O’Neal Memorial Garden located at the Harwich Community Center. The garden is used by the Society to run hands-on demonstrations, while providing the Cape with a beautiful public rose garden. We grow many types of Roses here including Hybrid Teas, Old Garden Roses, Grandifloras, Polyanthas, Climbers, Shrubs, and Minis. The great aspect of this garden is that people can see up close how a particular rose tolerates the Cape weather and soil conditions. If you are considering purchasing a rose, or planning a garden, your first stop should be the garden at the Community Center. When you stop by, you might see one of the Lower Cape Rose members (you’ll know them by the gauntlet gloves, hat and a determined look about them. Plus the fact that they are on their knees or head first in a rose bush!) please say “Hi” and ask for information on any of the roses. You might just discover a new passion!!!
